CPD – Understanding Autism module created for PGA Learn.

The three part module was created to help PGA Professionals better understand the background of the research report on the relationship of Autistic adults and golf.
This content was designed to serve two purposes.
1) Explain why the research was designed as it was.
2) To initiate the person-centred style of consideration for further CPD engagement on Autism.

Part 01

Part one is about diagnosis history and deficit orientation, neuro-developmental reclassification, contemporary prevalence, Autism Act 2009 and Equality Act 2010, anticipatory duty to make reasonable adjustments, employment and mental health outcomes, life expectancy, misdiagnosis and non-diagnosis, self identification, person centred understanding, policy and implementation gap, and Autistic inclusion in sport.

Part 02

Part two about the Autism spectrum as neurological variation, profile variation and unique profiles, context sensitive expression, sensory processing differences, regulation and capacity, demand accumulation, behavioural expression and misinterpretation, communication variation, regulatory state and communication, masking, stimming, presentation versus internal state, environmental demand, recovery, residual load, accessibility versus inclusion.

Part 03

Part three is about research design and open question format, participant autonomy, neurodiversity affirming approach, lived experience as primary reference, variation across participants, thematic analysis, how to read the report, participant language, GAP journal publication, copyright and contact.
